Guwahati: A six-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team touched down in Guwahati on Tuesday. They have four days to size up the wreckage from the 2025 and 2026 floods. The clock is ticking.
Praveen Kumar Rai of the Ministry of Home Affairs leads the group. Representatives from the finance, water, rural development, road, and space ministries round out the delegation. They hit the ground running with an introductory meeting led by L. Sweety Changsan, the CEO of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
The team split into two smaller squads to cover more ground. Starting July 8, they will fan out across six districts. Group one targets Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, and Gohpur. Group two moves through Cachar, Bajali, and Chirang to inspect shattered infrastructure, ruined crops, and public property.
These officials are looking for cold, hard facts. They want to see the impact firsthand before heading to Janata Bhawan in Dispur. There, they will sit down with the Assam Chief Secretary to talk about their findings. The state government remains focused on the recovery process as local officials like Parag Kumar Kakaty, Alakananda Medhi, and Pankaj Chamua prepare for the upcoming site visits. Officials briefed the delegation on the state's plight, confirming they reviewed the "extent of damage caused over the past two years" during their initial discussions.
