Itanagar: Over 50 professionals from the disability, rehabilitation, and education sectors in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh recently gathered for a two-day Continuing Rehabilitation Education workshop focused on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). The event aimed to enhance the practical understanding and skill sets required to support individuals with speech impairments, ensuring that AAC tools are utilized to supplement and assist natural speech rather than replace it entirely.

The training highlighted the critical need for person-centered approaches when addressing the diverse learning and communication requirements of individuals with developmental disabilities. Experts emphasized that AAC systems, which include everything from simple gestures and pictures to sophisticated high-tech communication devices, are essential for promoting long-term independence and social inclusion.
