Kohima: The Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation wants the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Nagaland government to finish the Special Legislation. This stems from Clause 3.3 of a February 5, 2026, agreement. Progress remains steady. The state government already sent a revised draft to the Ministry for review.
Ministry meetings held on July 24 and 27 included ENPO input. The group claims these observations aim to help, not hinder, the official process. ENPO considers the deal a three-way pact between itself, the state, and the central government. All parties must follow the rules. ENPO said, "The MoA is a tripartite agreement among the MHA, the Government of Nagaland and ENPO."
Deadlines loom. Public trust hangs in the balance. The group suspended a rally and pushed back its Central Executive Council meeting to August 11 to keep the peace. They now expect a final result quickly. Officials should finalize the legislation before the August 11 meeting or at least before Independence Day. Success would prove that negotiated deals actually work for the people of Eastern Nagaland.
