Gangtok: The Election Commission of India is set to begin a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Sikkim on May 30. This comprehensive process aims to create more accurate and inclusive voter lists, helping to minimize future disputes and ensure smoother election operations across the state.
Apurva Kumar Singh, a deputy director for the commission, highlighted that local language outreach is essential for success in challenging terrains like Sikkim. He noted that the media serves as a vital bridge between the commission and the public, helping to boost awareness and encourage greater participation throughout the revision cycle.
As part of the initiative, booth level officers will conduct house to house visits to distribute and collect necessary documentation through June 28. Following this, the commission will publish draft electoral rolls on July 5. Citizens will have until August 4 to submit any claims or objections regarding their registration status. Officials plan to resolve these filings by September 2, with the final updated electoral rolls scheduled for publication on September 6.
