Itanagar: The Election Commission has announced that biennial elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats will take place on June 18. Officials will issue the formal notification on June 1, and vote counting will conclude on the same day as the polling.

These elections cover ten states, including four seats each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Karnataka. Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh will each hold elections for three seats, while Jharkhand will fill two. Additionally, one seat will become vacant in each of the four northeastern states of Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram.

Several prominent figures are set to complete their terms, including former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda and Union Ministers George Kurian and Ravneet Singh. The commission also scheduled bypolls for June 18 to fill one seat each in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. These vacancies arose after Sunetra Ajit Pawar and C. V. Shanmugam were elected to their respective state assemblies.
