Kohima: Nagaland is kicking off a statewide Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The Election Commission of India set October 1, 2026, as the official qualifying date. Preparatory work starts August 5 and runs through August 14. This phase covers training, stakeholder meetings, and printing necessary forms.
Booth Level Officers will hit the streets from August 16 to September 14. They will conduct house to house visits to distribute and collect enumeration forms. BLOs must leave one copy of the form with the resident and provide a receipt. Residents need a current passport photo ready for verification. The CEO described the process as a "participative exercise" intended to ensure an error-free roll.
District officials are mobilizing across the state. Noklak Deputy Commissioner issued a circular requiring total cooperation from village councils and ward authorities. In Kohima, Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem scheduled a mandatory meeting for August 11 at 11 am to coordinate efforts. All municipal councilors and town GBs must attend.
Beyond house visits, officials will rationalize polling stations by September 14. No station may host more than 1,200 electors without specific approval. The draft electoral roll drops September 20. Only those who submitted completed forms during the enumeration phase will appear in this draft. Public claims and objections will be accepted from September 20 to October 20. EROs will process these until November 18, including conducting inquiries into suspected foreign nationals under the Citizenship Act. The final roll publishes November 22.
