Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation Targets Child Safety and Empowerment

Kohima: The Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) Mokokchung unit joined forces with local government agencies to host a sensitisation programme on July 11. Held at Aongza Ki, the event focused on the theme Protect Children and Empower Women. ENWO president Yingphe Konyak called for community action to stop exploitation. She said, "Work together towards building a society free from violence, discrimination and exploitation."

Government officials led technical sessions covering legal protections and welfare schemes. Moamenla Longkumer, representing the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, detailed various state-run programs meant to bolster female welfare. Wangshinaro Yaden from the Sakhi One Stop Centre took on the tough subjects of child marriage and gender-based violence. She outlined available legal support for survivors.

District Supervisor Imnatula addressed the risks of child labour and abuse. She pushed the public to use the 1098 Child Helpline. Participants learned about the Juvenile Justice Act and the POCSO Act. Imnatula insisted on education over child labour while detailing harsh penalties for offenders. The day ended with an interactive Q&A session.
