MLA demands action after deadly Mon-Tobu bus crash

Kohima: A fatal bus crash on the Mon-Tobu road claimed one life and left several others critically injured on July 9. The Nagaland State Transport vehicle went down near Ukha Changkhong village. A Nyamnyei Konyak, MLA for the 48 Moka constituency, blames the tragedy on the driver. He claims the man was under the influence of illegal substances during the shift.

Konyak wants the book thrown at those responsible. He says the department ignored repeated warnings about the driver's habits. The Tobu Area Students' Union flagged the man to the Station Superintendent back on May 31, citing a prior wreck on May 29. "Such gross negligence was unacceptable," Konyak stated while calling for a transparent probe into the department's inaction.

The bus service serves as a lifeline for patients, students, and traders in the Moka and Tobu areas. Konyak is pushing the Nagaland government to pay up for the victim's family and cover medical bills for the survivors. He wants the transport line running again soon, but only after officials put real safety measures in place.
