Imphal: Two suspects are in custody following the abduction and murder of six civilians in Leilon Vaiphei. A joint task force featuring the NIA, Manipur Police, and CRPF made the arrests based on tips from victims' families. The accused are a local couple, Ayingbi and Pradip.

Violence erupted May 13 when assailants killed three pastors in an ambush. Suspected militants then took 18 people hostage at Leilon Vaiphei. While 12 hostages walked free, six were kidnapped and killed. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the state is taking all steps to secure justice.

The victims' families refuse to bury their dead. The remains sit at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences while survivors demand accountability. Families have clearly stated, "they will do so only after all those responsible are brought to justice."

The United Naga Council and the Naga Women’s Union are pushing for more arrests. They want the Leilon Vaiphei village chief and local society members hauled in. These groups also seek the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, citing alleged ties to militants. Khemchand promised that security agencies will track down every remaining suspect.
