Shillong: Voter registration is moving fast across East Khasi Hills. Booth Level Officers are visiting homes in all 15 assembly constituencies to hand out forms. They started the grind on June 30 and expect to wrap up the collection by July 29.
District records show 1,67,253 forms already in the hands of residents across 898 polling areas. Officials have moved 6,707 of these into the digital system so far. The Pynursla constituency leads the pack with 22,004 forms distributed, while Mawphlang shows the highest number of entries made into the digital database.
The drive hit a wall in the Mawprem area. The KSU Mawprem Circle claimed a local official handed out papers on public roads and at an ex-politician's house instead of knocking on doors. The District Election Officer ordered an immediate inquiry into the matter.
The administration demanded the officer retrieve the flagged forms. An Assistant Electoral Registration Officer took charge of the area on July 3 to fix the mess. "The BLO was directed to retrieve the affected forms," the office stated in a recent press note.
All 17 calls made to the district helpline have been cleared. Officials now ask all eligible voters to work with the staff to ensure the count is accurate. They want this finished on time.
