Shillong: Meghalaya is currently conducting a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls to verify data for 2026. House-to-house enumeration began June 30 and runs through July 29. Booth Level Officers are visiting households across all constituencies. They are using the 2005 electoral roll as a baseline for the exercise. A total of 3,551 officers are managing the work. They are supported by 60 Electoral Registration Officers, 166 assistants, and 410 supervisors.

The state aims to reach all 23,49,645 electors. Distribution is moving fast. By July 5, East Khasi Hills alone had distributed 1,67,253 forms. Officials have already digitized thousands of these documents. Residents can also use the Voter Services Portal or ECINET app to submit forms online. No supporting documents are required during this specific phase.

Tensions spiked in West Shillong after residents spotted a Booth Level Officer handing out forms from the home of a former legislator. The Khasi Students’ Union and local village headmen flagged the incident as a violation of official protocol. Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal responded quickly. He ordered the recovery of all forms issued at the residence between June 30 and July 2. Starting July 3, supervisors were mandated to accompany the officer during all visits.

Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari warned against dual voting. He stated, "No person can be a voter in more than one place." Baranwal echoed this sentiment while meeting with political party representatives. He emphasized the process is meant only to verify existing voters, not to add ineligible ones. He noted that allegations of improper enrolment remain "ill-founded." Officials are now conducting daily spot checks to ensure the door-to-door mandate is followed until the July 29 deadline.
