East Khasi Hills Police Say Murder Case Remains Strong Despite Bail Setback

Shillong: East Khasi Hills police view the recent bail grant for Sonam Raghuvanshi as a tactical headache. Raghuvanshi stands as a prime accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. The court released him after a clerical blunder surfaced in the arrest memo drafted in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Officers mistakenly cited Section 403 instead of Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the specific code for murder.

East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem confirmed the error infected three different arrest documents. He dispatched multiple police teams across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to track the suspect down. Raghuvanshi currently obeys all court mandates and shows up for hearings. Syiem remains confident about the evidence. "Nonetheless the trail will go on and this is a setback on the investigation. But we have not lost the war. We will look forward for the trail," he stated.

Police sent the full paper trail to Advocate General Amit Kumar for review. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is weighing a government appeal against the bail order. Justices Manoj Misra and Shree Chandrashekhar signaled that the case might head to a larger Bench. The court currently debates whether authorities must provide written grounds for arrest to a suspect. The justices noted that simply listing legal codes in a memo might fall short of constitutional requirements.
