Shillong: The East Khasi Hills District Administration is taking services to the people. Starting next month, officials will conduct driving tests at local block headquarters instead of forcing residents to travel into Shillong.
District Transport Officer R. Hinge released the official schedule for August. Motor Vehicle Inspectors will hit the road to run these assessments across four specific locations. The Mawkynrew Block hosts tests on August 7, followed by the Sohra Block on August 14. Assessments move to the Mawryngkneng Block on August 21 and wrap up at the Pynursla Block on August 28.
District Transport Officer R. Hinge ordered inspectors and dealing assistants to organize slot scheduling and all logistics. East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal confirmed the program aims to cut down on travel for rural applicants.
“This is being done on a pilot project basis. We want to ensure that driving tests are conducted in different blocks at least once a month,” Baranwal said. Officials expect this decentralization to make the licensing process more accessible for everyone involved.
