Dimasa Students Union Demands Release of Detained Activists

Guwahati: The All Dimasa Students' Union hit back at the Assam government on July 20. They want the immediate release of land rights activists Aditya Rabha and Pranab Doley. The union says the state must show proof for the detention or let them walk free.

Pranab Doley, who serves as the convenor of the Greater Kaziranga Land and Human Rights Protection Committee, disappeared on July 12. Assam Police grabbed him from a house in Sundarpur, Guwahati. They hauled him to Dispur Police Station before shipping him off to Bokakhat. Officials have stayed silent on the union's latest demand.

The student group claims this move threatens basic democratic rights. Aditya Rabha has a long history of fighting for the identity and land of indigenous people. The union says peaceful advocacy for constitutional rights cannot be a crime. They released a formal statement calling for justice, noting: "any legal action against individuals engaged in peaceful democratic advocacy must be fair, transparent, impartial and in accordance with constitutional guarantees of justice and liberty."

The group insists that transparency keeps public trust alive. They want the government to respect civil liberties while the legal process moves forward. Other organizations are also speaking up against the arrests.
