Dimapur Officials Push Community Action Against Rising Dengue Threats

Kohima: Health officials met in Dimapur on July 9 to launch a fresh push against vector-borne diseases. The advocacy meeting targeted Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland districts. These areas saw spikes in dengue cases previously. Community leaders from across the region attended the session at the CMO office.

DPO Dr. Ayangla Saku demanded a united front to stop the spread of sickness. She noted that government work is not enough to handle the threat. "Prevention and control of vector borne diseases required active community participation and could not be achieved by government efforts alone."

Dr. Imnapokim, the State Programme Officer, warned that climate patterns are fueling the mosquito population. The 2023 surge was tied to the El Nino effect. Experts fear similar weather this year will bring more trouble. He urged residents to sleep under nets, use repellents, and wear long sleeves to stay safe.

Officials pushed for source reduction as the top defense against bugs. They told residents to dump standing water and cover storage containers. Colonies should organize regular clean-up drives. They also suggested adding larvivorous fish to local ponds to kill mosquito eggs. Anyone needing help with malaria cases should call the department at 7630932587.
