Kohima: The Dimapur Municipal Council conducted a drainage inspection and cleanup at Midland Colony on Tuesday to prepare for the approaching monsoon season. Led by chairman Hukheto Yepthomi, the team monitored ongoing sanitation work and assessed the condition of local drainage systems.
Officials including Councillor R. Chubala and sanitation supervisor I. Sentinuklu Jamir identified several vulnerable areas where waste accumulation and debris were obstructing water flow. To address these issues, the council recommended the immediate deployment of excavators and sanitation crews to clear roadside drains of accumulated garbage.
During the site visit, the delegation noted that illegal encroachments and poor waste disposal practices have narrowed critical drainage channels, increasing the risk of flooding during heavy rain. The council urged residents to cooperate by keeping these areas free from obstructions.
This initiative serves as part of a broader monsoon preparedness plan. DMC officials confirmed that similar inspections and sanitation drives will soon expand to other localities to ensure drainage systems remain functional across the city.
