Kohima: Civil society organizations under the Naga Council Dimapur have pledged full support for the 11-point charter of demands issued by the Dimapur Eastern Naga Students Union. The groups are calling for justice following the alleged sexual assault of a minor in Dimapur. The accused is currently in police custody and faces charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Naga Council Dimapur president GK Rengma stated that the council has been working closely with local law enforcement, the district administration, and youth groups to monitor the case. Representatives have met with police officials to review the investigation's progress and have visited the Child Welfare Committee to ensure the victim is receiving proper counseling and academic support.

Addressing the ongoing investigation, Rengma noted that authorities are examining allegations of a possible third suspect based on the victim's recorded statement. He expressed confidence in the current legal proceedings. Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation president Zasivikho Zakiesato described the incident as a “dark” moment for the community.

Following consultations with student and youth organizations, the civil society groups have officially cancelled a protest rally that was set for June 11. They cited the need to maintain public order as the primary reason for the decision. Meanwhile, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur president Y. Imlinungla confirmed that the victim's future rehabilitation, including education and vocational training, is being prioritized by the Child Welfare Committee.
