Gangtok: The Sikkim Democratic Front has formally requested that the Election Commission of India extend the deadline for Special Intensive Revision enumeration forms by one month. Senior vice-president Shakti Singh Chaudhary submitted a memorandum on June 5, arguing that the current timeframe ending June 28 is insufficient for effective voter outreach.
The opposition party cited several logistical barriers, including the state's difficult mountainous terrain, which hinders Booth Level Officers from reaching remote settlements. The SDF reported that officials are struggling to complete the mandated door-to-door verification process, often failing to perform the required three visits to each household.
Technical instability within the ECINet application has also caused significant confusion among voters attempting to verify their registration details. Beyond digital issues, the party pointed to overcrowding at designated collection centers and a lack of guidance for rural residents struggling to complete the necessary documentation.
The SDF emphasized that the revision process must prioritize the inclusion of all eligible citizens. The party warned that failing to grant the extension until the end of July could negatively impact the electoral process, stating, "genuine voters could be excluded from the draft electoral roll if adequate time is not provided for the completion of the exercise."
