Assam Woman Files Complaint Alleging Deception and Forced Conversion

Guwahati: A woman from Bebejia has filed a formal complaint at the Nagaon Sadar Police Station, accusing her husband of significant deception and abuse. The complainant alleges that Ashadul Islam, a resident of the Chalchali area, lied about his marital status when they first met. She claims that while he introduced himself as an unmarried man, he was already married and had a child at the time of their wedding.

The woman, who previously operated a beauty parlour near Dhing Gate, reports that the deception was followed by a pattern of physical and psychological mistreatment. She stated that the abuse persisted throughout her pregnancy. Beyond the physical violence, the complainant alleges that she was forced to convert to another religion and faced constant pressure to provide funds for her husband's business ventures.

Local authorities have launched an inquiry into the matter. Regarding the nature of the allegations, police officials confirmed that an investigation is underway, stating, "Police have initiated an inquiry into the allegations."
