Shillong: Construction of the Shillong IT Park Phase II in the New Shillong Township is nearing its final stages. Official sources confirm that contractor Badri Rai and Company is expected to hand over the completed facility to the government by the end of July. Workers are currently applying final touches to the four-story building, which boasts a total built-up area of 1.80 lakh square feet at a project cost of Rs 121 crore.
The facility is designed as a high-utility “plug-and-play” model, which allows companies to lease office space for either short-term projects or long-term operations. Two floors of the new building are already occupied by private companies. This expansion is a key component of the state government’s plan to boost local employment, with officials expecting to generate roughly 22,000 direct and indirect jobs across tech parks in Shillong and Tura.
Phase II is specifically projected to create 3,000 direct and 9,000 indirect positions once fully operational. This follows the success of the first phase, which currently supports 1,500 direct and 4,500 indirect jobs. The upcoming Tura Tech Park is also expected to contribute significantly by providing an additional 1,000 direct and 3,000 indirect roles.
