Guwahati: Twelve students at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in Dibrugarh injured themselves on September 10. The situation began when a Class VII student cut himself with a pencil sharpener blade. Soon after, 11 other classmates followed suit using stationery items like broken scales. Chaos erupted. School staff moved fast to stop the students and provide medical aid.
Health officials and an ambulance arrived on the scene alongside an Additional Deputy Commissioner to assess the harm. The school reports the situation is now under control. Plans are already in motion to bring in counselors to help the children and prevent this from happening again.
The Dibrugarh district administration issued an order for a full investigation. District Commissioner officials tasked Kabita Deka, the Inspector of Schools, with leading the probe. Deka must gather every fact and detail surrounding the incident and present a comprehensive report within seven days.
The District Child Protection Officer will assist the investigation team. Officials expect the school principal to provide full cooperation. The administration's inquiry is expected to "establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and examine the events that led to the injuries sustained by the students."
