Dibrugarh Administration Evicts 60 Families in Riverbank Land Clearance

Guwahati: The Dibrugarh district administration cleared 60 families from public land along the Brahmaputra riverbank on Monday. The operation targeted nearly nine bighas of territory located behind the Chief Minister's Secretariat in Paltan Bazar.

Authorities deployed earthmovers and heavy machinery to dismantle structures that had been built on the site over several years. Officials stated the drive aimed to reclaim government land that had been occupied without authorization. According to officials, "similar drives could be undertaken in other parts of Dibrugarh where government land has allegedly been encroached upon."

Occupants had received vacate notices in the weeks leading up to the operation. Police personnel assisted in the clearance to maintain order, and the administration reported no incidents or disruptions during the process. The riverbank site is situated near the Maijan area, a region where officials have previously raised concerns regarding illegal land usage.
