Guwahati: A student has been arrested in Assam’s Dhubri district after attempting to use a forged HSLC certificate for higher secondary admission. The arrest followed a complaint from the Bidyapara Boys Higher Secondary School, where staff identified the document as fraudulent on April 29, 2026.
Following the student’s arrest, his mother, Pratima Ghosh, filed a formal FIR against the institution responsible for issuing the certificate. The complaint identifies the facility as English Education Academy, which also operates under the name English School Academy in Jhagrarpar Part-III. Ghosh maintains that her son, Sagar, was a victim of a fraudulent scheme and was unaware that the certificate was fake.
The family claims they were misled by social media advertisements and promises made by the academy's owner, Zahidul Hussain. The academy allegedly operated openly for nearly two years before this incident. In her filing at the Dhubri Police Station, Ghosh accused the academy of running a deceptive operation and criticized local education authorities for failing to monitor or shut down the unauthorized institution.
The FIR demands a thorough investigation into Hussain and his associates. The family has requested that police apply stringent charges for cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The case has sparked local outrage, with residents calling for tougher oversight of private educational institutions across the district.
