Guwahati: A 61-year-old patient sits in the ICU at Dhubri Medical College and Hospital after his family accused staff of a botched blood transfusion. Abu Bakkar Siddique checked in on July 1 with severe anemia. Doctors ordered three units of blood. The family panicked when they spotted a B-positive tag on a slip for a patient they knew to be O-positive.
Siddique crashed after the first unit. He moved to the ICU immediately. His family now demands a full investigation into what they call life-threatening negligence. They want answers.
Hospital Superintendent Dr. Gunajit Das denies any medical foul play. He claims internal checks prove the patient received the correct O-positive blood. The mix-up was purely paperwork. "Scientific verification, including examination of the blood bank register, preserved blood bag segments and repeat testing, has confirmed that the patient was transfused with O-positive blood," Dr. Das stated.
Principal Dr. Anku Moni Saikia admits a technician put the wrong label on the document. She insists the blood inside the bag was safe. The facility sent samples to Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital to confirm the results. They also asked the District Commissioner to start an external inquiry to settle the dispute.
