Guwahati: Bholanath College launched a fresh skill development internship for undergraduates on June 23. The program partners with the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust in Bishkhowa. It targets students finishing their fourth semester.
Dr. Upendrajit Sharma, a former General Secretary of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, served as the chief guest. He explained that the National Education Policy requires this practical summer training. Students earn academic credits that count toward their fifth-semester grades. He noted, "The National Education Policy aims to equip students with practical skills and encourage self-reliance."
Over 100 students from the Assamese, Sanskrit, and Hindi departments attended the launch. They will spend their summer learning how to make jute handicrafts and weave fabric. The training also covers beekeeping, tailoring, and food production. Organizers hope these lessons build entrepreneurial spirit and boost future job prospects.
Beauty Das and Champa Patar represented the Trust during the event. Faculty members Poli Bezbaruah, Mousumi Bhattacharya, and Sangeeta Singh also detailed the program structure. The day wrapped up with the National Anthem.
