Kohima: The Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students Union (DENSU) says the recent arrest of three suspects in a sexual assault case involving a minor is only the first step in their pursuit of justice. The union is now demanding the immediate arrest of a woman accused of recording and circulating a video that exposed the victim's identity.
DENSU general secretary Sheren Shiu described the assault as inhumane and emphasized that the group will remain vigilant until the case is fully resolved. "Whoever is involved in this case must be arrested. We will not stop until justice is delivered," Shiu said during a press briefing. She warned that failure to provide justice could erode public trust in law enforcement, though she noted the union is currently cooperating with investigators.
Union leadership is calling for a Special Investigation Team to be formed at the state level to ensure the case is monitored by the Director General of Police. They also expressed deep concern regarding one of the suspects, who has been identified as a Gaon Bura in Residency Colony, and questioned whether local governing bodies would take disciplinary action.
Beyond the legal pursuit, DENSU urged society to speak out against gender-based violence and provide better support for survivors. The union has submitted a formal memorandum to authorities and warned that they are prepared to intensify their protests if their demands for accountability and the strict enforcement of the POCSO Act are not met.
