Kohima: A joint mission is underway to reopen the Dikhu to Chuchuyimlang road. Natural disasters choked off the path, leaving Longleng district completely cut off. Officials hope this route restores a vital lifeline for emergency services and travelers heading to Kohima.
On August 24, a delegation met with the Chuchuyimlang Village Council. The group included Longleng Deputy Commissioner W Manpai Phom, Phom Peoples Council President YB Angam Phom, and Dr. Y Nuklu Phom of LEMSACHENLOK. The Chuchuyimlang leaders agreed to the restoration plan immediately. The council has maintained this historic path for decades through sheer self-reliance, receiving no outside government help.
Work began following a prayer ceremony at the Dikhu Bridge. Dr. Y Nuklu Phom led the proceedings. During the event, W Manpai Phom lauded the regional cooperation. The DC stated, "The Chuchuyimlang Village Council (CVC) welcomed the proposal and extended their complete cooperation for the collective cause."
Leaders from the Langpangkong Tzukong Mungdang, the Unger Village Council, and the Phom Peoples Council joined the push. Everyone emphasized the need for unity to keep supplies moving. This road serves as a shortcut for those moving through the state. It keeps the region connected.

The Chuchuyimlang Village Council built the original track, and they have shouldered the entire burden of maintenance for decades without a cent or a crew from the state.
During the launch, the chairman of the Chuchuyimlang Village Council joined the heads of the Langpangkong Tzukong Mungdang and the Unger Village Council to voice their support for the project. These groups pledged their sweat to ensure the route stays open for the haulage of goods and emergency vehicles.
