Guwahati: AIUDF lawmaker Badruddin Ajmal slammed the government over a massive stash of fake cash seized in Guwahati. He says the currency racket poses a larger threat than the state's drug epidemic. Ajmal blamed the current surge on a total failure of oversight. He wants authorities to get aggressive to stop the trade.

"The issue of counterfeit currency is even bigger than the drug menace. Where are these fake notes coming from? Who is using them? This is a 100 per cent failure on the part of the government," Ajmal said. He suggested that police encounters against traffickers would end the criminal activity immediately.

Assam Minister Biswajit Daimary framed the problem as a nationwide struggle. He asked residents to feed police information on suspicious gangs. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Manab Deka identified Bongalmora as a hub for the fake note production. Police have already arrested nine people in connection to the operation.
