Imphal: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party president Conrad K. Sangma wrapped up a two-day trip to Manipur this weekend. He arrived Friday, aiming to bolster the party’s presence ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Sangma officially opened the new NPP state office at Mercy Lane, Mantripukhri, alongside state unit president Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze and local party workers.
He spent Saturday at the Manipur State Film Development Society complex in Imphal. The event served as the party’s annual convention. He spoke to members, honored newly formed district committees, and oversaw the induction of fresh recruits into the organization. Sangma intends to grow the party’s reach across all 60 Assembly constituencies.
The leader ruled out pre-poll alliances for 2027. He wants an independent mandate. Sangma also met with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and the state Governor. He emphasized that rebuilding communal trust and generating jobs are the only ways to ensure economic revival in the region. He remains focused on the plight of internally displaced persons.
During his visit, Sangma weighed in on the nationwide NEET UG 2026 paper leak controversy. He demanded a fair investigation before casting blame on officials like Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He criticized the police handling of student protests but welcomed ongoing talks between those groups and the government.
Sangma pushed for reconciliation in the violence-torn state. He told the public to seek common ground. "The Manipur issue is highly complex, and there is no single or easy solution. But for a better future, people must give peace a chance," he said. He maintains that the NPP serves as a necessary regional alternative for the Northeast.
