Guwahati: The Congress party is preparing to name its new leader for the legislative wing in Assam. Senior leader Gaurav Gogoi announced on May 20 that the final decision rests with the All India Congress Committee, which will choose a candidate following direct consultations with the state's elected MLAs.

Gogoi spoke with reporters after returning from a series of discussions with the party's central leadership in Delhi. These talks focused on selecting an effective Leader of the Opposition for the Assam Legislative Assembly.

To prepare for the upcoming legislative sessions, the party has scheduled a meeting for all opposition lawmakers this Thursday evening. Gogoi noted that the Congress MLAs plan to visit the Assembly together on Thursday as well, a move intended to project a unified front as they organize their internal structure in the new Assembly.
