Itanagar: A formal complaint has been submitted to the National Human Rights Commission regarding the alleged custodial torture of Gumin Mize, an anti-drug activist from Arunachal Pradesh. Buteng Tayeng, who filed the petition, claims police officers at the Bihpuria Police Station in Assam's Lakhimpur district physically assaulted and verbally abused Mize. The complaint also alleges that Mize was denied necessary medical care during his time in detention.

Public outcry grew after images circulated on social media, appearing to show bruises and serious injuries on Mize's body. These allegations have prompted condemnation from student unions, civil society groups, and various anti-drug organizations across the region. Supporters are now calling for an independent investigation into the incident and demanding that officials be held accountable for the alleged mistreatment.

While Mize is well known for his advocacy work, local residents and activist groups are pushing for transparent monitoring of the case by both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh authorities. The police have not yet released an official statement addressing these claims. The National Human Rights Commission is expected to review the petition as pressure mounts for a fair inquiry into the conduct of the officers involved.
