Shillong: Civil Hospital Shillong conducted a mock drill on May 30 to evaluate its readiness for managing suspected Ebola Virus Disease cases. The exercise centered on the hospital's isolation facility and tested how staff members follow the official protocols established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

During the simulation, teams practiced the entire response sequence, starting with the arrival and triage of a patient. Healthcare workers conducted clinical assessments and gathered critical data on travel history and potential exposure. A major focus remained on infection control, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and the safe handling, labeling, and documentation of clinical samples for laboratory transport.

The drill also allowed officials to review environmental decontamination and biomedical waste management practices. By simulating these high-risk scenarios, the hospital identified potential gaps in its response mechanisms and reinforced standard procedures. Health authorities stated that these regular exercises are essential to maintain operational readiness and protect both staff and the public against emerging infectious threats.
