Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Chakma Youth Association (APCYA) has filed a formal complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) regarding allegations of extortion linked to the death of a 15-year-old girl. The organization is seeking an urgent investigation into claims that two individuals received 3 lakh rupees from the girl’s employer to settle the case.

The victim, who worked as a domestic helper, died in Roing on December 11, 2025. Following concerns over initial inquiries, the NHRC ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation to take over the case on March 13, 2026. According to the APCYA, the victim's father alleged in a social media video that the employer paid 3 lakh rupees, with only a portion reaching the family while the rest was allegedly kept by Chikond Chand Chakma of the All India Chakma Students Union and another man named Amit Chakma.

APCYA president Rup Singh Chakma argued that these financial transactions threaten to undermine the ongoing CBI investigation. He stated, "This is not only a grave injustice in a case involving the death of a 15-year-old girl, for which the NHRC had ordered a CBI inquiry, but it also raises concerns that the complaint filed before the Commission may have been used as a means to extract money, compromise the investigation, and deny justice to the victim and her family."

The youth association claims that the student union launched an internal inquiry that ultimately dismissed the father's allegations. The APCYA is now urging the NHRC to involve its investigation division and ensure that the findings are handed over to the CBI to prevent further obstruction of justice.
