Chümoukedima Officials Review Growth Plans and Infrastructure Needs

Kohima: Chümoukedima district officials met July 10 to approve new development proposals and review local infrastructure. Chairman Zhaleo Rio led the session at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall. He told staff to work with a sense of purpose and commitment. Officers must stop viewing their jobs as simple employment.

Advisor Hekani Jakhalu joined the meeting to discuss the district economy. She noted the state faces tight finances and low revenue. The board needs to support local businesses and small enterprises to hit goals under the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. These efforts should directly aid residents.

The board cleared several new society registrations, including Pro Village and Odia Samaj Nagaland. They also finalized the Local Area Development Programme proposals for the 2026-27 cycle. Discussions on a proposed District Industries Centre remain tied up in government review. Officials confirmed this project requires standard procedures before breaking ground.

Damage from monsoon floods prompted calls for repairs. The Chakhroma Public Organisation requested a new suspension bridge at the Saturday Bazaar. The board decided to lobby the State PWD for the job. Earlier, the disaster authority provided 4 lakh rupees for initial fixes.

Census work continues across the area. Additonal Deputy Commissioner T Lemlila Sangtam reported that teams finished 25 percent of the count. Five officers manage the current pace. They expect to finish on time.

Pollution control experts pushed for better trash disposal. Rio wants citizens to act as an agent of change regarding waste rules. He told the town council and residents to coordinate on segregation. The district wants to set a high bar for cleanliness.
