Gangtok: The Union Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region has announced a 583 crore rupee financial package to support sustainable growth in Sikkim. During a visit to Gangtok for the 51st Statehood Day celebrations, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia introduced the Mission Sikkim Organics program with a 360 crore rupee outlay.
This organic initiative aims to integrate Sikkim into the global market, providing support to more than 66,000 farming families. The Ministry will contribute 85 crore rupees toward infrastructure and coordination, with additional funding sourced through private investment, NABARD, and central government collaboration.
Beyond farming, the central government inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 21 development projects valued at 223 crore rupees. These works focus on improving tourism, roads, bridges, and public connectivity. Key projects under review include the Temi Tea Estate in Namchi, the Khangchendzonga State University campus, and the Bhaleydunga Skywalk.
Minister Scindia commended Sikkim for its ongoing commitment to biodiversity and cultural preservation. He noted that the state serves as a significant model for environmental protection and economic development both within the Northeast region and across India.
