Guwahati: Cachar Police intercepted a massive shipment of narcotics near the Puticherra Toll Gate on National Highway 27 in Assam. Officers recovered 21,600 bottles of Codeine Phosphate Syrup hidden inside a six-wheeler truck. Police arrested one suspect at the scene and confiscated two mobile phones believed to be linked to the smuggling operation.
This seizure is part of a broader government crackdown aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks throughout the region. Law enforcement agencies have ramped up surveillance on major highways and border areas to prevent banned substances like heroin, yaba tablets, and ganja from crossing state and international lines.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the local police for the operation. He maintained that the state holds a zero-tolerance policy regarding narcotics. According to the Chief Minister, these persistent enforcement efforts have successfully weakened several major drug syndicates, and the state will continue to pursue these operations to improve public safety and protect local youth.
