Shillong: The Border Security Force recognized 67 personnel with medals for gallantry and service to mark the 80th Independence Day. Twenty members of the 94th Battalion received the Medal for Gallantry for their roles in a lethal anti-Maoist operation. The mission occurred on the night of April 15 to 16, 2024, in the Binagunda and Kalpar areas of Chhattisgarh's Kanker district.
Troops from the 94th Battalion and the Chhattisgarh Police District Reserve Guard teamed up for the raid. They took out 29 hard-core Maoist cadres. They also seized a large cache of arms and ammunition. BSF officials noted the operation involved "conspicuous bravery during a meticulously planned anti-Maoist operation."
Inspector Ramesh Chandra Choudhary and Inspector Alok Kumar led the list of 20 gallantry awardees. Other recipients include Kana Ram Yadav, Villayat Ali, Mohd Ali, Golam Ehsanuzzaman, Rajat Singh, Hasimuddin S K, Shrawan Meghwal, Prem Sagar, Prassanna Chettri, Sagar Ghosh, Sanapathi Atchhiya Naidu, Adesh Kumar, Bidyut Gain, Khilare Navanath Narayan, Anil Kumar Verma, Sandeep Kumar, Dinesh Khati, and Siddharth.
Five senior personnel earned the President's Medal for Distinguished Service. This group includes retired Inspector General Mangi Lal Garg, Inspector General Charu Dhwaj Aggarwal, Deputy Inspector Generals Ashok Kumar and Dhirendra Singh Sindhu, and Second-In-Command Amarvir Yadav.
Finally, 42 personnel received the Medal for Meritorious Service. This extensive list features various ranks from Inspector Generals down to Head Constables. The honorees include Ashok Kumar, Lala Krishna Kumar Lal, Satyabrata Mukherjee, Hemantha Raju S L, Amitav Roy, Rajesh Kumar Giri, Pramendra Kumar, Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Amitabh Panwar, Balbir Singh, Manish Chandra, Mukund Kumar Jha, Neeraj Sharma, Pranay Kumar, Shivanand Yadav, Vijay Kumar Singh, Vipin Panthri, Yogesh Kumar, Sukumar Pattnaik, Jaibir Singh Poonia, Sanjay Kumar Gupta, Rajnendra Singh Rawat, Rajesh Kumar Agnihotri, Desh Raj Gautam, Anil Kumar Vats, Arvind Yadav, Joy Dev Acharya, Mukul Chandra Deka, Pappu Kumar Singh, Sudesh Chander, Kavali Achyutha Muni, K P Surendran, Richard Kispota, Ranjan Biswa Karmakar, Shaik Mustak Basha, Nemi Chand, Deepak Dayali, Prabir Kumar Singha, Bua Ditta, Mohan Lal, Prem Kumar, and Babul Barman.
