Guwahati: Law enforcement chiefs from BRICS nations landed in Guwahati to attack the rising tide of international drug trafficking. This two-day summit marks the first time India has hosted the group’s anti-drug heads. Officials want tighter intel sharing and better coordination across borders.
Lucas Barbosa, representing Brazil, praised the Indian hosts while pushing for deeper unity. "We are very pleased to be here in Guwahati, Assam, and are thankful to the Indian Chair for the hospitality. The BRICS anti-drug working group has a long history of cooperation, and we intend to further strengthen collaboration in law enforcement and intelligence sharing. Drug trafficking is a transnational threat that requires coordinated action by all member countries," Barbosa said.
NCB Director General Anurag Garg framed the struggle as a fight for the next generation. He warned that drug abuse has turned into a massive international burden. Delegates plan to break down complex threats, specifically focusing on darknet marketplaces and the use of cryptocurrencies for illegal deals. They will also look at how criminal syndicates exploit maritime routes to move shipments. The goal is to build a unified wall against evolving drug networks.
