Guwahati: Bongaigaon police wiped out a massive stockpile of narcotics on Sunday. The stash carried an estimated street value of 6.63 crore rupees. The haul went up in smoke at the Birjhora Tea Estate. Officers followed strict legal and environmental rules to finish the job.
Senior Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta oversaw the operation. High-ranking officials, including the Additional Superintendent of Police and the Additional Deputy Commissioner, watched the burn. Members of the local media and the Pollution Control Board tracked the disposal to ensure total transparency. It was a clean sweep.
The authorities destroyed over 1,000 kilograms of ganja worth 5.13 crore. They also torched nearly 300 grams of heroin, thousands of tablets, and over 13 kilograms of opium. These drugs were pulled from the streets during a long fight against trafficking.
Police say the public destruction sends a clear message. Officials said the destruction of the seized narcotics "underscores the state's sustained crackdown on drug trafficking networks and sends a strong message to organised drug syndicates operating in the region." The crackdown continues.
