Bongaigaon Man Sentenced to 20 Years for POCSO Case

Guwahati: A special court in Bongaigaon has sentenced a local man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor. Nanar Janak Choudhury, a resident of Paharatali, was convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act after the court found him guilty of the crime.

Court records indicate that the victim was 15 years old when the assault occurred. The incident resulted in the girl becoming pregnant. In addition to the prison sentence, the judge ordered Choudhury to pay a fine of 10,000 rupees. If he fails to pay this amount, he will face an additional six months of incarceration. Legal officials in the district described the ruling as a significant development in addressing sexual violence against children.
