Aizawl: The BJP-ZPM alliance kept its grip on Mizoram's Chakma Autonomous District Council on July 9. Newly sworn-in Chief Executive Member Nirupam Chakma easily won a floor test to cement his control. He secured 18 votes in the 20-member council. Deputy Chairman Sundor Muni Chakma oversaw the proceedings. The only Mizo National Front member, Rasik Mohan Chakma, skipped the vote.
Nirupam Chakma took his oath last Wednesday. The Mizoram Governor appointed him after the Chakma Democratic Alliance Legislature Party chose him as their leader. The council holds 10 BJP members and nine from the ZPM. The Governor's Rule ended with his swearing-in. This move followed a full year of political chaos in the region.
Addressing the council after his win, Nirupam Chakma thanked his supporters. He said, "The remaining members of the executive committee would soon be inducted to ensure the smooth functioning of the council in accordance with the provisions of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution."
The council faces big tasks. Priorities include better roads and improved school facilities. The administration also plans to boost local healthcare and drinking water access. Officials want to focus on youth jobs and skill training. The team expects to work closely with state and central authorities to push growth. They hope to help achieve the national vision of a "Viksit Bharat." The CADC manages territory in the Lawngtlai district under the Sixth Schedule.
