Guwahati: BJP MLA Pradyut Bordoloi recently addressed the Assam Assembly to emphasize the critical need to preserve the state's indigenous identity and cultural heritage. During the inaugural session, he argued that safeguarding the future of local communities is a primary responsibility for the current government.
Bordoloi highlighted historical challenges to the state's sovereignty by pointing to the British colonial era. He noted that there were specific attempts during that period to merge Assam with East Pakistan. According to the legislator, the state maintained its distinct identity largely due to the efforts of leaders like Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, who successfully resisted these proposals.
Looking to the present, Bordoloi praised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his ongoing initiatives focused on protecting the interests of indigenous groups. He stated that the current BJP-led administration remains committed to defending the heritage of the region.
