Bihar Man Sentenced to Decade in Prison for Agartala Ganja Smuggling

Agartala: A Tripura court sentenced 55-year-old Mantu Yadav to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for smuggling 22.625 kilograms of ganja. The Special Judge for the NDPS Act in West Tripura handed down the verdict on July 28. Yadav, a resident of Bihar, faced conviction under Section 20(b)(ii)(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

He must pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Failure to pay this amount results in an additional six months behind bars. The case traces back to a January 11, 2025, search operation at Agartala Railway Station. Authorities acted on specific intelligence to trap the smuggler. Agartala Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force conducted the raid. They caught him with the drugs after intercepting him on suspicion.

Official records list the matter as SPL (NDPS) 95/2025, originating from Agartala GRPS Case No. 03/2025. Sub-Inspector Pankaj Kumar Das finished the investigation and submitted the chargesheet on June 30, 2025. Justice was swift. The court reviewed all evidence before finalizing the prison term.
