Guwahati: Barpeta police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a local man in the Gayanhati area of Barpeta town. Officers solved the case within 24 hours of the crime, identifying the detainees as Samiran Gayan, Gonen Das, and Jitul Bhuyan.
The victim, Bipul Gayan, was discovered dead near his home on Sunday night. An investigation led by Additional Superintendent of Police Samiran Baishya determined that the violence broke out following a period of alcohol consumption. All involved parties were neighbors living in the immediate vicinity of one another.
Addressing a press conference, ASP Samiran Baishya stated, "the murder was allegedly triggered by an incident related to alcohol consumption." Police report that after drinking at the home of Samiran Gayan, the three suspects encountered the victim outside his house. They allegedly attacked him with wooden sticks until he died. The suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation and the investigation remains ongoing.
