Imphal: A high-level delegation representing the Manipur Baptist Convention, the Baptist World Alliance, the Asia Pacific Baptist Federation, and the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India held critical meetings in Imphal on Sunday. The group met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh to advocate for urgent government intervention to restore communal harmony and address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Manipur.

The delegation expressed deep distress regarding the persistent violence, which has resulted in significant loss of life, widespread displacement, and the destruction of property. A formal memorandum presented to the Governor highlighted the recent killing of prominent religious figures, including Rev. Dr. Vumthang Sitlhou, Rev. Kaigoulun Lhouvum, and Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou. The church leaders unequivocally condemned these acts of violence, abduction, and intimidation, regardless of community affiliation.

To address the deteriorating situation, the church bodies urged authorities to prioritize the safety of civilians and initiate a formal investigation into the recent murders by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Furthermore, the delegation requested enhanced security for vulnerable regions and called for immediate government support in the form of humanitarian aid, rehabilitation, and financial compensation for affected victims.

Beyond immediate security concerns, the leadership emphasized the necessity of facilitating dialogue and reconciliation to bridge the divide between communities. The delegation also raised urgent concerns regarding individuals currently being held hostage, appealing for swift government action to secure their safe release and foster long-term peace in the region.
