Guwahati: B. Borooah College in Guwahati will host the International Conference on Progress and Challenges in Modern Day Sustainable Science on November 2 and 3. The college Department of Chemistry organized the event alongside the Pollution Control Board, Assam, and the Assam Science Technology and Environmental Council. Experts from around the globe will gather to discuss environmental solutions.
The summit targets the difficult shift from lab research to real-world technology. Participants will tackle resource management and the UN Sustainable Development Goals using chemistry and related fields. Dr Pradyumna Mazumdar, the conference convener, stated: "The event would focus on taking scientific advances beyond laboratories and applying them to sustainable technologies, processes and practices."
Keynote speaker Prof Bill Jones from the University of Cambridge will lead the international delegation. Additional speakers include Prof Mihails Arhangelskis of the University of Warsaw and Prof Nadeesh M. Adassooriya of the University of Peradeniya. Domestic expertise arrives from IIT Indore, Delhi University, Nagaland University, IIT Patna, CSIR-IMMT Bhubaneswar, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and IIT Roorkee.
The industry will also have a seat at the table. Dr Monoj Mon Kalita of Carl Zeiss Meditec AG and EU consultant Dr Biva Talukdar are confirmed attendees. Sessions will cover everything from climate change and waste management to food technology and green chemistry. The program features plenary lectures, student presentations, and poster sessions.
This meeting marks the 62nd anniversary of the college chemistry department, founded in 1964. The department currently runs programs through the PhD level and holds research grants from DST-SERB, UGC, ARIAS, and RIDF. Interested researchers can submit abstracts and register through the official website.
