Guwahati: The Tinsukia district administration demolished the Urban Taste Restaurant in Makum on Tuesday following the death of 45-year-old Mukut Urang. Urang, a resident of Gangabari Gate Line, passed away at the Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh after suffering injuries during an alleged assault on June 11.

Urang’s death triggered immediate protests from the All Tea Tribes Students’ Association and the All Assam Students’ Union. Demonstrators blocked National Highway 37 for several hours to demand justice, financial compensation for the victim’s family, and strict legal action against those involved in the attack. ATTSA leaders stated that "public demonstrations would continue until justice is delivered to the victim’s family."

Police arrested the restaurant owner, Imran Siddiqui of Borhapjan, in response to the growing public unrest. During a search of the premises prior to the demolition, authorities reported seizing a pistol and allegedly discovering banned meat. The building was sealed and subsequently leveled under heavy security.

Local law enforcement remains on high alert throughout Makum to maintain order as the investigation continues. Additional police personnel are stationed across the area to prevent any further escalation of the situation.
