Imphal: The Asufü Christian Institute in Punanamei, Mao, celebrated World Environment Day on Friday with a community-wide tree plantation drive. Organized by the institution’s Eco Club, the event brought together faculty, staff, and students to foster ecological responsibility and sustainable development within the campus and surrounding areas.

Participants planted cherry tree saplings across the institute grounds and along a one-kilometer stretch reaching Kapengho Junction on the Kidima Nagaland Road. Beyond new plantings, the team maintained trees from previous campaigns by clearing weeds and applying manure to ensure the long-term survival of the vegetation.

Eco Club Convenor Lohrü Adai highlighted that protecting the environment is a duty shared by everyone. During the event, he urged the community to incorporate sustainable habits into their daily routines. He stated, "Small and consistent efforts by individuals can collectively make a significant impact in preserving the environment for future generations."

The initiative concluded with a renewed commitment from the ACI community to continue their environmental stewardship. By focusing on both new planting and the consistent care of existing greenery, the institute aims to instill a lasting culture of conservation among its members.
