Guwahati: Residents of Deharkalakuchi village in the Nalbari district of Assam have barred the burial of Roz Ali, the lead suspect in the recent Gangapur attack, within their local public graveyard. This decision was reached collectively by villagers from Deharkalakuchi and five surrounding communities, who also declared they would not participate in any funeral rites for the deceased.

The standoff follows an encounter in Mukalmua where Assam Police officials confirmed they shot and killed Roz Ali during an investigation. Authorities launched the operation after a violent assault on two youths last Saturday night. The victims, 19-year-old Madhurjya Barman and 18-year-old Mridumudra Deka, were riding a scooter near Gangapur when they were attacked.

Madhurjya Barman died from the injuries sustained during the assault, while Mridumudra Deka remains under medical care for his critical wounds. Investigators had previously identified Roz Ali as the principal suspect in the case. As of now, there is no official word regarding alternative arrangements for his burial, though police are monitoring the region to prevent any disruption to public order.
