Guwahati: Assam plans to transform the four-kilometre stretch between Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and Dharapur into a vibrant cultural corridor. The project aims to welcome international delegates attending upcoming global events by presenting the state's deep-rooted traditions and civilisational history.
Cabinet Minister Bimal Borah announced the initiative on social media, noting that the corridor will function as a living tapestry of the region. The route will feature performances of traditional music, folk dances, and displays of indigenous cultural practices to tell the story of the state to guests. Borah stated, "Once, Assam's timeless cultural treasures were celebrated mainly at home. Today, they are becoming a source of global fascination."
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the project as a unique strategy to promote the state as a prime tourism and cultural destination. By integrating these artistic displays into the gateway of the airport, the government intends to provide visitors with an immediate and immersive experience of the region's diverse identity. The initiative serves as a centerpiece for the state's broader effort to gain prominence on the global stage.
